Lampasas Tour of Homes was great fun!

This past Sunday, the Lampasas County Museum had their annual fundraiser, a tour of homes in and around Lampasas.  We were so happy to be a part of the celebration.  It was fun to meet other people who like seeing old homes and we also learned a lot about some of the previous owners from some long time Lampasas residents.

It was a wonderful day!

Special thanks to our friends Libby Lancaster and Donna Eversdyk for helping to answer questions for guests during the tour.

Fall is almost here...

The rain is really greening things up here at the Manor and we are enjoying it!  It's time for asters, mums, and pretty soon pumpkins.  Here are a few shots of our most recent event, a wedding shower.  We enjoyed a pleasant afternoon on the terrace under the shade of our giant trees and a couple of market umbrellas.

Weekend of weddings...

We had our first weekend with multiple weddings and it was great!  The brides were beautiful, the weather cooperated (yea!), and I continue to be amazed at the creativity of diy brides and their decorating skills.  Below you can see the fruits of their labors.  I will post additional pictures on the Gallery of our main website and on our directory sites as soon as I have the chance to get them sorted.

There was wonderful barbecue at both events and we were treated to the best beans in Burnet County--although the chef would not share his secrets with us, more's the pity.  :(

Congratulations to both of our brides;  we wish you joy.

Wildflowers are here!

The weekend we have all been waiting for has finally arrived. The salvia and the coreopsis are in their full glory. The blackfoot daisies are still looking good. Take a peek...

Personalizing your wedding...

According to Wedding Wire, one of the hottest trends in weddings right now is personalization.  Couples are taking the time to make their wedding unique to them.  They want it to be more than a cookie cutter; they want it to make a statement about who they are as individuals and as a couple.
Of course, I think weddings have always been personalized to some extent--brides choose the venue, colors, and dress they like.  Even back in my day, when dinosaurs roamed the earth, couples wrote their own vows.  Lee and I sang a song to each other as a part of our ceremony, because we both love singing and music.  I am sure that if I searched, I might be able to find the old cassette tape with our wedding singing on it… I am not sure this is really a new trend so much as it is a continuing idea.  People everywhere have always desired to have agency, to be special, to do something original.
If I were planning my wedding today, it would be totally different than it was, ahem, 31 years ago.  I would be braver with color, and I would have a literary cake, like the ones I have added to my “If I were getting married now” Pinterest Board.  I would still want to sing, but I might be less nervous and I would definitely want to have my wedding outside or in a historical place.  I would have daisies...as many as I could afford. And lavender--I love lavender.  Who knows, maybe for my next anniversary!
If you are planning your own big day, what do you want to do to make it special to you and your dear one?    How will you make your day speak volumes?  Let us know and we will feature some of the ideas on White Garden Events. I can’t wait to see.  :)

Cactus removal...

One of the first things that people used to notice when they came up our driveway to take a look at the house and wedding ceremony sites, or visit the B & B, was the acres of prickly pear cactus.  It almost looked like we were growing it as a crop!  Well, those days are almost over, or at least the cactus is being significantly reduced.  Just in time for two June weddings, Lee has been out in the pasture working to clear it of our unwanted crop.  Now, if we only had a way to make the piles of cactus magically disappear...

On the bright side, the first wildflowers of the season are poking their brave little heads up.  We can hardly wait to see what blooms we have this year.  We seeded some additional flowers to hopefully increase out display.  With a little rain, things should be coming up any day now.

These are some ox eye daisies--I think from the seeds I planted last year.  I will be posting more as soon as the show starts.  :)

Our favorites from the Killeen Bridal Extravaganza...

Today we attended our first Bridal show in Killeen, sponsored by the Killeen Daily Herald.  We had a wonderful time and met some very nice folks.  Several brides from Lampasas and Copperas Cove were there, and it was great to meet them and their entourages.  As usual, we tasted some yummy food and cake and saw some beautiful work in the booths, so here are some recommendations based on what we tasted and observed.

Cakes:

Sweet Eats Bakery in Killeen
We tasted the orange, lemon, strawberry, and red velvet.  They were all delicious and the frosting was light and creamy, not heavy.  Yum!

Works of Art Cakes in Killeen
They take their cakes pretty seriously, and they are definitely artsy.  We tasted a white cake, very light and fluffy, with a nice buttercream frosting.  Fortunately, we shared, so we did not go into a sugar coma after trying so much cake.  :)

Wedding Planners and Designers:

R&M Smith Designs--Her decorations were tasteful and on trend.  Very well done.  You can see more of her work on her Facebook page.  She also handles rentals and catering.  Score!

Geri M. Schwartzman at Milestone Memories and Events.  Take a look at her website for some of her designs.

Hair:

Crave Hair Lounge--they will come out to the Manor to make sure you and all your bridesmaids look great!

Catering:

Sticky Bones BBQ & Catering--delicious.  Everything we tried, brisket, chicken, beans, even the broccoli salad was wonderful.

CJ's Catering in Georgetown--Wonderful food and the people are fantastic.  With over 30 years in the business, you won't be disappointed.

New photos...

Saturday, we were the played host to some local teens on their way to a dance.  They were a charming bunch, for sure!
